You Know The Truth
by joelbear ineach of us has the ability to discern the truth about ourselves and about life in general.
we must use the ability to keep it strengthened against propaganda, manipulation and outright lies.. we know the truth.. others will pressure us in all types of ways to think they have a better truth than the one we know.
they can even persuade us to think untrue things about ourselves.

It continues to amaze me how the confidence a person has in an ideaology or organization can be the basis for "truth" seeking.
When studying with JW's you are allways encouraged NOT to rest your opinions upon feelings but instead weigh what you believe against Gods word. What if the things being taught by the Watchtower conflict with Gods word? I believe there IS AN EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT between many of the members and their religion. They would never believe that a teaching isn't something clearly taught in scripture because they have allready handed over their deepest trust to their religion.
We must remember that simply because many have accepted the Watchtowers message of "truth" dosn't mean they have ever tested it's validity. -

Kingdom Halls?
by Rooster in.
when jesus was talking to the samaritan woman by the well did he imply that buildings (like the temple) would have to be built & dedicated to god for a person to be able to worship god?
can modern day kingdom halls really be considered a place of true worship?

I think the Kingdom Hall is an added bounus to the entire "concept". It adds flare to say how many are being built per year. I've heard many say that they are the most importanat building in any community. Many forget that it's what's inside that counts, not the simple fact that a building or place exisists.
About beards. I have some expierance on that one. It is encouraged that you don't have a beard. The current belief is that a brother can have a beard, thats his choice. Because it could cause somebody to "stumble", they would not qualify for any positions in the hall. -

There is and ideaology that is at work within the org. The only thing that can really "take it down" is time. Even at that it may be years, even decades before it falls. Time is the ultimate. It's like the riddle that gollum says in lord of the rings...
This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town
And beats high mountain down. -

Ok I Have A Question For All Of You!
by Legolas in.
when you were a dud (i call it 'dud' not dub..lol), ok how can i put this.....were you 'always on'?
meaning did you always have something to give to people or witness to them at 'every' opportunity or did you look at it as a 'job' where you only gave things out in service?

Not really, I was only enthusiastic for about a year, but even at that I did not feel a desire to prove everybody wrong and "teach" them the truth.

What was your first Apostasy?
by Dune ini'm re-reading 1984 and the similarities between the wtbs and the "party" astound me, but anyway, it made me think of the time when i started to get doubts (thoughtcrime).. i remember once at this book study a sister commented about the 1914 and was reciting it's historical accuracy.
anyway, she went on to mention that the demons were probably learning everything about biblical prophecies from the wtbs.
i was 13 at the time but the comment made me cringe, i was thinking "why would superior beings need humans to interpret the bible for them?

My first question, the one that got me going, hmm... I can't quite remember. Back in 2000 right after I got baptized I remember going through a few periods where I got frustrated and started to question, simply because of the people in the hall and their generalizations. Then one day...
As I was searching the internet for more info on 607, which I thought was a pretty solid date in history I was blown away to seen nothing but sites talking about the JWs. I assumed I was simply going to come across some generic info on the date, not all of this other stuff. Within a year I had begun to question everything. -

I think blondie is right on this one. I'll be at the meeting tonight and find out first hand whats up.
As a side point, isn't it funny how people get all excited when a letter is being read at the KH? There is allways this anticipation followed by dissapointment. We would like to let you know that the "Drwaw close to Jehovah" book is available in spanish. Wow, I really needed to know that.
